Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka insists he had no intention of injuring , revealing he apologised for the Egyptian after the game.

Mohamed Salah was taken off on a stretcher against Newcastle on Saturday following a heavy collision with the opposition’s goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Salah received lengthy treatment on the pitch and underwent tests on Sunday, which confirmed that the Egyptian has suffered a concussion and will miss Tuesday’s clash against Barcelona.

The Slovakian goalkeeper spoke on the incident, saying it was an accident while revealing he didn’t realise he collided with the Egyptian until after the game.

“I didn’t hit him with my hand, I didn’t punch him. It might have been my hip [which connected with him]. I wasn’t sure if it was me or someone else,” Dubravka said.

“But I went to him to say sorry. But I was not trying to injure him; I am not that kind of guy. I felt sorry for him but I was just focused on the ball. Sometimes you can’t watch everything.

“He answered something [when we asked if he was OK]. But I don’t know if he was out for five or six seconds, because Fabian [Schar] asked him if he was all right and he didn’t answer him, so in that moment we were a little bit scared about if he was OK. But, after one minute, he responded.

“I asked also Fabian, because I was not sure if it was me or him. Fabian said it was probably me with my hip. But I am happy that he is OK,” he added.

The Egyptian will now miss the return-leg against Barcelona, the game which Liverpool will need to score four goals while keeping a clean sheet in order to reach a second successive final.

However, Klopp is optimistic Salah will return to the squad in their final game of the season against Wolves on Sunday, May 12.

That was not intentional. It is very clear to see, just bad luck.
