Aaron Wan-Bissaka chooses to represent England over DR Congo
Wan-Bissaka was born in England but is from Congolese descent, making him eligible to play for both national teams.
The 21-year-old has represented the DR Congo national team at the U20 level, before featuring for the Three Lions at U20 and U21 levels.
And ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Aaron has revealed he will reject any interest from DR Congo, saying he prefers to represent the Three Lions for now.
“I am happy playing with England and representing England, so that is what I am going to continue doing,” Wan-Bissaka said.
“My aim is just to keep playing and improving. By improving hopefully that does not go unnoticed and that will get me the chance, the same as it did with the team [Crystal Palace] now,” he added.
He is set to represent the English U-21 side in U21 Euros this summer in Italy and San Marino. They were drawn in group C alongside Croatia, France and Romania.
“Of course, that is where the focus is. When the season ends, it is about focusing on the Euros and aiming to win it. Then after that is about focusing on the next season,” he concluded.
The Crystal Palace academy graduate has been a crucial player in helping his side sit 12th in the Premier League.
