Aston Villa beat West Brom in first leg of Championship playoffs semifinals

’s have beaten ’s 2-1 in the first leg of the semifinals.

The two Egypt international started the game and played the full 90 minutes at the Villa Park as both sides eyeing a return to the Premier League.

In the 11th minute, West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez took a powerful shot but it was denied by the crossbar.

Five minutes later Dwight Gayle made the most out of an Aston Villa defensive mistake and opened the scoring for the visitors.

Then in the 75th minute Irish international Conor Hourihane took a powerful shot from outside the penalty area and scored Villa’s equalizer.

In the 78th minute, former Arsenal man Kieran Gibbs tackled Jack Grealish inside the penalty area to award them a penalty. Tammy Abraham, then converted it into a goal with a calm shot in the bottom left corner.

Two minutes before full-time, West From striker Dwight Gayle got sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Aston Villa have now put one foot in the playoffs final, but they will have a tough second leg on Tuesday May 14. The winner of this clash will face the winner between Leeds United and Derby County.
