OFFICIAL: El-Dakhelya relegated from Egyptian Premier League

El-Dakhelya relegated from Egyptian Premier League
El-Dakhelya have been relegated from the Egyptian Premier League following a 2-1 defeat to Zamalek at Petrosport on Sunday.

The Cairo-based club have not won a league game since November 2, when they beat Tala’ea El Gaish 2-1 at home. Since then, they have played 21 games, drawing 12, while losing nine.

Their recent results meant that they have to win their remaining three league games in order to have any chance of staying in the top tier, however, a narrow loss to the Whites sealed their relegation.

This becomes El-Dakhelya’s first-ever relegation from the top flight since their promotion in the 2011/2012 season, and they even managed to finish in a respectable eighth place during the 2015/2016 season.

A number of talents in Egyptian football have emerged at the club over the past couple of years, most notably Hossam Salama Paulo, the club’s all-time top scorer, who won the league’s top scorer award twice before.

Egypt internationals Amr Marei and Islam Gaber have also featured for the club, as well as the likes of Ahmed Samir Farag, Benjamin Acheampong, Ahmed Temsah, and Keoulen Lamah.

The club have also lost a number of their key players last summer, Ahmed Alaa to Al Ahly, Nasr Mansi to Pyramids FC, Saïdou Simporé to Al Masry, and Ahmed Mostafa, who moved to Belgium’s Gent.

They will now join Nogoom FC in the second division after the latter suffered the drop after losing 2-1 to Misr El-Makkasa on Friday.
