Alaa Abd El-Aal resigns as El-Dakhelya manager following relegation
El-Dakhleya manager Alaa Abd El-Aal has resigned from his post following his team’s relegation from the Egyptian Premier League.

The Cairo-based club have not won a league game since November 2, when they beat Tala’ea El Gaish 2-1 at home. Since then, they have played 21 games, drawing 12, while losing nine.

Their recent results meant that they have to win their remaining three league games in order to have any chance of staying in the top tier, however, a narrow 2-1 loss to Zamalek on Sunday sealed their relegation.

This becomes El-Dakhleya’s first-ever relegation from the top flight since their promotion in the 2011/2012 season, and they even managed to finish in a respectable eighth place during the 2015/2016 season.

Following the Zamalek game, Alaa Abd El-Aal, who managed El-Dakhleya in around 200 games in the top tier, has announced his resignation, with Diaa Abdel-Samad taking charge of the club in their last two league games against Ismaily and Al Masry.

Abd El-Aal was the one who guided El-Dakhleya to the Egyptian Premier League in 2011 and led them to a historic eighth-place finish in 2016, before leaving to coach ENPPI and then El-Sharkia.

He then returned back to El-Dakhleya in April 2017 to help them survive relegation in two successive seasons, before suffering the drop this year.

They will now join Nogoom FC in the second division after the latter were relegated after losing 2-1 to Misr El-Makkasa on Friday.
