Omar Marmoush’s VfL Wolfsburg II crowned Regionalliga Nord champions
The Regionalliga Nord is one of five leagues in the fourth tier of the German football league system, with teams from states of Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen, and Hamburg taking part in it.
The reserve team of VfL Wolfsburg are one of six reserve teams to feature in the 2018-19 Regionalliga Nord season, alongside Werder Bremen, Hannover 96, Hamburger, Holstein Kiel, and FC St. Pauli.
However, their main rival for the league title was VfB Lübeck, who collected 71 points from 33 games, five less than VfL Wolfsburg II, with only one game to go.
The league title is the club’s third in their history after triumphs in 2014 and 2016, and they will now take part in a promotion play-off against Regionalliga Bayern champions Bayern Munich II.
The first-leg will take place at the AOK-Stadion, Wolfsburg on May 22, before both teams face each other in the return-leg four days later.
In case Marmoush’s side managed to come out victorious, they will get promoted to the 3. Liga for the first time in their history alongside Chemnitzer FC, Viktoria Köln, and Waldhof Mannheim, who won their respective leagues.
Egypt’s Omar Marmoush, who joined the German club in the summer of 2017 from Wadi Degla, has made only four appearances, all as a substitute, and could get one more game to his name when his side face BSV Rehden in the final league game on Saturday, May 18.
The 20-year-old winger was also called-up by Egypt’s U23 national team for their two friendlies against Uzbekistan, which will take place on the 9th and 11th of June.
