Madagascar name 23 man squad for 2019 AFCON
Madagascar manager Nicolas Dupuis has named the Barea’s 23 man squad for their first ever AFCON appearance this summer.
After being drawn in a group alongside Senegal, Sudan and Equatorial Guinea, not many people put much thought into the possibility of Madagascar making it to AFCON.
However, years later they have done something that no other Madagascar squad has done before them and made it to Africa’s premier tournament. As such, their manager Nicolas Dupuis has named the 23 players he will take to Egypt this summer.
The squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Melvin Andrien (Martigues), Ibrahima Dabo (Gobelins), Jean Randrianasolo (CNaPS Sport).
Defenders: Mamy Randrianarisoa, Pascal Razakanantenaina (St Pierroise), Dimitry Caloin (Les Herbiers), Thomas Fontaine (Reims), Romain Metanire (Minnesota Utd),Jerome Mombris (Grenoble), Jeremy Morel (Lyon), Toaviina Rambeloson(Arras).
Midfielders: Ibrahim Amada (Mouloudia Alger), Anicet Andrianantenaina (Ludogorets), Andriamiraldo Andrianarimanana (Kaizer Chiefs), Marco Ilaimaharitra (Charleroi), Lalaina Nomenjanahary (Paris FC), Jean Rakotoarisoa (Fosa Juniors), Rayan Raveloson (Troyes).
Forwards: Charles Andriamahitsinoro (Al Aldalh), Faneva Andriatsima (Clermont), William Gros (Vitre), Tsilavina Njiva (Samut Sakhon), Paulin Voavy (Misr El-Makkasa).
The Frenchman has also named a standby list, which features Fabien Boyer, Sandratriniaina Tobisoa Njajanirina, Andrianavalona Andoniaina Rakotondrazaka.
Madagascar get their campaign underway on the 22nd of June against Guinea before taking on Burundi and Nigeria to close out the group.
