RS Berkane coach admits Zamalek game difficulty, praises Omar Salah
RS Berkane manager Mounir Jaouani has praised Zamalek goalkeeper Omar Salah and has expressed his delight following the first-leg victory.
The Whites fell to an away 1-0 defeat to Morocco’s RS Berkane after a 93rd-minute winner from Togo international Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba.
Zamalek now need to win by a two-goal margin at Borg El-Arab next Sunday in order to secure the title, while a draw will be enough for RS Berkane.
“Thank god for the result and the goal. We needed to have a slight advantage before heading to Egypt,” Jaouani told beIN Sports after the game.
Third choice goalkeeper Omar Salah had to start for Zamalek in Morocco and the 21-year-old excelled, which made Jaouani shower him with praise.
“We did everything we could, and the Zamalek goalkeeper stopped us from scoring at least two more goals. We now have a big game waiting for us in Egypt,” Jaouani said.
“I thank the fans for their support from the first minute. It was a tough game, but thank god for the victory. We will fight in the return-leg to gift the fans the title,” he added.
The return-leg will take place at Borg El-Arab, Alexandria next Sunday, May 26, with 30,000 fans expected to attend the final showdown.
