Championship side have joined Sheffield Wednesday in the race to secure the services of Egypt international and Wigan midfielder .

Earlier, Sheffield Wednesday and other clubs were linked with a move for Sam Morsy, and according to reports from HITC and West London Sport, Brentford FC have also joined the race to sign ’s captain, as they look to push on from their mid-table finish this season, hoping for a top-six spot next season.

The 27-year-old Egypt international has earned seven caps for his country and has also made 120 appearances in his three seasons at Wigan, leading the Latics to a League One title last season.

Additionally, Morsy played in 40 of Wigan Athletic’s 46 Championship games this season, which saw just five players completing more tackles than him, according to the league’s official statistics.

His excellent performances and combative style for the Latics were two major reasons for the club’s survival from relegation as they finished 18th, 12 points away from the relegation zone.

Unfortunately for the former Wolves’ youngster, he was left out of the Egypt squad that will feature in the 2019 AFCON, despite playing for the Pharaohs in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Morsy only signed a new contract with Wigan on Christmas Day 2018, keeping him in the club till the summer of 2021. However, as it appears, the Wigan Athletic captain may join one of Wigans’ Championship rivals.

Nevertheless, with the Latics having let go Reece James, who recently returned from loan to Chelsea, and Nick Powell looking set to move on after he reportedly turned down a new contract at the club. It is doubtful that they will want to let go of their main man any time soon.

Too Old for Brentford. No ‘sell on’ value at end of contract.
