Talaat Youssef replaces Helmy Toulan as Ittihad of Alexandria manager
The Alexandria giants are having a disappointing season and could suffer their first-ever relegation in case they lose against their rivals Smouha in the final game and other results don’t go in their way.
They suffered a huge 4-0 away defeat to El-Gaish on Tuesday, which saw them drop to 13th with 36 points, two points away from the relegation zone, with only one game to go.
Following the defeat, Helmy Toulan has stepped down from his position as Ittihad manager after 29 games in charge.
During his time in Alexandria, Toulan has won ten games, drew eight, and lost 11, leading the club to Egypt Cup semi-finals as well as the quarter-finals of the Arab Club Championship.
His successor will be Talaat Youssef, who has managed the club during five different stints before, but has revealed that he has returned back to take charge of the club’s final game only.
Youssef has quit as Misr El-Makkasa boss last month for personal reasons, and now he will have a difficult challenge, which will see him face former club Smouha in a decisive game.
If Ittihad managed to secure the three points, they will guarantee safety from relegation, however, any other result could see them get relegated.
