Zamalek’s Kabongo Kasongo named in DR Congo AFCON squad

Despite a lack of playing time on loan at Al-Wahda, sees himself included in ’s 32-man provisional squad for next month’s AFCON which will be hosted in Egypt.

The DR Congolese international Kabongo Kasongo started the season strongly with , featuring in 14 out 16 matches. During his time at the Whites, the striker scored 3 times and assisted twice.

However, after the player was loaned out at Al-Wahda, Kasongo experienced a shoulder injury which rendered him unavailable for a long time. The Al-Wahda forward was only able to feature in 13 out of 18 matches with the Saudi Arabian side, scoring just 4 goals and producing 1 assist along the way.

The former Ittihad of Alexandria forward will be hoping to remain on the list as DR Congo coach Jean-Florent Ikwange Ibengé trims his list down to 23 players before the 11th of the next month.

Coach Florent Ibengé has also included some other notable players such as former France youth international Giannelli Imbula and Porto midfielder Chancel Mbemba. Strangely, the Antwerp striker and the country’s all-time top scorer Dieumerci Mbokani was notably omitted from the selection.
