Mohamed Elneny named in Arsenal’s Europa League final squad
Egypt international Mohamed Elneny has been named in Arsenal’s 24-man squad that has travelled to Azerbaijan for the Europa League final.
Arsenal have finished the Premier League campaign in fifth place, and will face Chelsea in Baku next Wednesday in the Europa League final.
They will aim to beat their local-rivals to win their first European silverware since the 1994 Cup Winners’ Cup and to secure their place in next year’s UEFA Champions League.
Among the 24 players that have travelled to Baku is Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny, who is set to play his third final with the Gunners after the 2017 FA Cup, 2017 Community Shield, and the 2018 EFL Cup.
The Egyptian will most likely not to start the game, especially with the likes of Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka, and Matteo Guendouzi, making the squad.
Mohamed Elneny has joined Arsenal in January 2016 from FC Basel, making 89 appearances for the club across all competitions, while scoring twice and providing eight assists.
Despite signing a new contract last year, he has struggled for game time under Unai Emery, featuring just 17 times, including only eight in the Premier League.
Goalkeepers: Petr Cech, Bernd Leno, Deyan Iliev.
Defenders: Carl Jenkinson, Sead Kolasinac, Laurent Koscielny, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Nacho Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis.
Midfielders: Mohamed Elneny, Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil, Lucas Torreira, Joe Willock, Granit Xhaka, Alex Iwobi, Xavier Amaechi.
