We were confident of winning Confederation Cup, says Zizo

Zamalek’s winger has revealed his delight following the Whites’ victory over in the CAF Conferedation Cup final.

The Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat in Morocco, before winning with the same scoreline at Borg El-Arab, thanks to Mahmoud Alaa’s second-half penalty.

This result meant the two teams will have to head into penalties to decide the winner of the cup, with the Cairo-based club coming out on top after Ahmed Sayed Zizo’s decisive penalty.

Speaking after the game, Zizo told beIN Sports: “I can’t describe how I feel right now after winning my first trophy with Zamalek.

“We were confident of winning the tournament following Youssef Obama’s last-minute equalizer against Petro Atletico in the group stages,” he added.

Zamalek were on verge of being knocked out from the group-stages, but they managed to win their last three games to secure their place in the quarter-finals, before eventually winning the title.

This becomes the club’s first contentinal title since 2002 when they beat Morocco’s Raja Casablanca in the final of the CAF Champions League.

This also marks the second time that an Egyptian side managed to win the Conferedation Cup after Al Ahly’s triumph in 2014.
