Klopp explains how Liverpool would deal with Salah CL final injury repeat
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool could cope with an injury to one of their main players during Saturday’s Champions League final against Tottenham.
Last year, Mohamed Salah’s involvement against Real Madrid was cruelly cut short after he damaged his shoulder in a challenge with Sergio Ramos which put a huge dent in Liverpool’s hopes of winning a sixth European Cup and affected Egypt’s World Cup run.
Apart from Naby Keita, Klopp is confident of a fully-fit squad available for the Madrid Champions League Final.
Klopp has stated that his side has prepared for a repeat situation of last year’s final, saying: “This season has been our preparation [for a player getting injured in a final].
“Mo and Bobby have missed games. The problem last year wasn’t just that we lost Mo, but that Adam Lallana who came on was only available at last minute and Ox was injured.
“That made our bench thin. For this team, it’s our first final. Plus there are the players who are experienced [being there before].
“Ali and Fabinho both missed out in the semi-finals. It’s the best team I’ve had going into a final but Tottenham can say something similar.”
Klopp also argued that his side has not been very unlucky in previous 2 European finals and that the players’ performances have not been to blame.
“Against Sevilla [in the 2016 Europa League final] the tank was empty in the second half and last year a little bit and we lost Mo as well,” he continued. Last year, a strange first goal, then a bicycle kick. Those goals weren’t down to our performance.
“The difference between us and Tottenham in the league was consistency. Both games we played them was 2-1.
“The home game saw a lucky punch for us in the last minute. But emotions will be different [in the final]. It’s a special game. We have to bring ourselves in the right mood.”
