Zamalek’s title hopes fades away as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Haras El-Hodood
Zamalek suffered a second consecutive draw as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Haras El-Hodood, in the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek started on the front foot, when Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ found a loose ball inside the box, however, the midfielder’s weak shot was easily saved by El-Hodood’s goalkeeper in the second minute.
The Alexandrian-based side responded in the 18th minute, after a poor clearance by Mahmoud Alaa, but the striker’s low shot was denied by Mahmoud ‘Gennesh’.
El-Hodood broke the deadlock, when Baha’a Magdy converted Edu Moses’ ground cross into the back of his own net, making it 1-0 in the 33rd minute.
The Whites started the second half fiercely, when Hamdy Nagguez advanced up the right flank and sent a well-placed cross towards Khalid Boutaib, whose powerful header cannoned off the crossbar just one minute after the restart.
Boutaib was once again at heart of attack for the vistors. Ibrahim Hassan sent an in-swinging crossed corner kick towards the Moroccan forward, who headed the ball calmy past the goalkeeper in the 64th minute.
Zamalek continued to push forward in order to revive their league title hopes, however, El-Hodood maintained composed and organized defence ending the game as a 1-1 draw.
After the draw, the Whites sit third with 68 points, six points away from league leaders Al Ahly, having played one less game.
