Karim Hafez confirms Red Star interest, discusses AFCON squad exclusion

Hafez, who joined Kasimpasa on a six-month loan deal after an unsuccessful spell with Istanbul Basaksehir, has been recently linked with a move to Red Star Belgrade.

The 23-year-old secured a spot in Kasimpasa’s starting eleven since joining them, making 13 appearances for them in the league while providing two assists.

The Wadi Degla loanee confirmed that Red Star coach Vladan Milojević, who coached Hafez during his time in Cyprus, has asked asked him to join his side this summer.

Despite the strong interest, Hafez revealed that he prefers to stay in Turkey for the upcoming two years.

“Indeed Red Star Belgrade have shown interest in signing me, their manager spoke with me. I already worked with him in Cyprus,” Hafez said.

“The negotiations are ongoing between both clubs, and I’m currently waiting for other offers to make the right decision.

“I want to stay in Turkey because I’ve been performing really well with Kasimpasa in the last six months. I hope to renew my contract for two years then move to a bigger Turkish club and if not I’ll join Red Star,” he added.

Hafez was also left-out of Egypt’s squad for the upcoming . He last appeared for the Pharaohs back in March in their 1-1 draw against Niger in the 2019 qualifiers.

“Of course I wanted to [participate in the AFCON] because it’s a historic event, but I wish the national team success. I hope the players can make the Egyptian people happy.

“The national team staff haven’t contacted me since the Niger game. I wasn’t happy with my performance during that game and the whole team didn’t perform well. It seems that the coach judged my level from that game.

“I’m unlucky with the national team, I always play in bad conditions against African countries like Ghana and Niger. I wished I had the chance to play against Arab countries, but I’ll keep working hard to return to the national team,”
