Ittihad’s Toni Silva named in Guinea Bissau’s AFCON squad
The former Liverpool player has joined the Alexandria-based club in the January transfer window, but struggled for game time as he featured for only 394 minutes.
In seven Egyptian Premier Leauge games, Silva provided two assists against Al Masry, and his last appearance for the club came on April 2 against Al Ahly.
Despite the lack of playing time, Silva still managed to make the final 23-man squad that will compete in the 2019 AFCON.
He will travel to Egypt with the likes of Fulham’s Marcelo Djaló, Frédéric Mendy of Vitória Setúbal, and Mamadu Tunkara Pelé, who plies his trade at Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
UD Internacional goalkeeper Edimar Vieira Cá is the only local-based player to get included in Baciro Candé’s squad, with the majority of the other players playing in Portugal.
Goalkeepers: Jonas Mendes (Académico Viseu), Rui Dabó (Fabril), Edimar Vieira Cá (UDIB).
Defenders: Rudinilson Silva (Kaunas Zal), Marcelo Djaló (Fulham) Juary Soares (Mafra), Mamadú Candé (Santa Clara), Tomas Dabó (Riete), Nanú Gomes (Marítimo), Eliseu Nadjack Soares (Rio Ave).
Midfielders: Sori Mané (Cova da Piedade), Mamadu Tunkara Pelé (Mónaco), Zezinho Lopes (Senica), Jorge Bura Norgueira (Aves), João Jaquité (Tondela), Moreto Cassamá (Reims).
Forwards: Jorginho Intima (CSKA Sofia), Piqueti Djassi (Al Shoulla), Toni Silva (Ittihad of Alexandria), Mama Baldé (Aves), Romário Baldé (Académica), Frédéric Mendy (Vitória Setúbal), Joseph Mendes (Ajaccio).
