Al Ahly submit offer to Huddersfield to extend Sobhi’s loan deal

Al Ahly submit offer to Huddersfield to extend Sobhi's loan deal

Al Ahly’s director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has confirmed his side have submitted an offer to to extend ’s loan spell.

The 22-year-old has rejoined Al Ahly on loan from Huddersfield Town last January for a fee around €800,000, less than six months after joining the former Premier League side.

Sobhi decided to leave the club on loan due to a lack of playing time, having featured for just 75 minutes across all competitions, without scoring or registering an assist.

However, since joining his boyhood club, Sobhi has impressed and was able to replicate the form he produced before moving to Stoke City in 2016, and was linked with a move to Premier League side Wolves.

He played 23 games for the Red Devils, scoring twice while assisting three goals as Al Ahly sit top of the Egyptian Premier League table with only two games to go.

This prompted the Cairo giants to submit an official offer to extend the player’s stay, however, club’s director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafez has admitted facing difficulties to complete the signing.

“We have submitted an offer to sign Ramadan Sobhi from Huddersfield Town, but the English side are asking for too much to let him go,” Abdel-Hafiz told Al Ahly TV.

“Of course we want Ramadan to stay and the player shares the same desire as well,” he added.

Ramadan Sobhi’s agent Nader Shawky has also confirmed on Wednesday that the Reds have begun negotiations to seal a deal for his client, but revealed that the Terriers want to keep him.

Speaking to Time Sports, Shawky said: “Al Ahly have started the negotiations to sign Ramadan Sobhi two days ago. They spoke with me, but Huddersfield Town want the player to return to England on July 2.

“Sobhi’s contract at Al Ahly runs out on July 2 and Huddersfield Town insist on having him back.

“The player wants to stay at Al Ahly for one more season as he wants to win the CAF Champions League with them, but it’s very difficult from him to remain in Egypt due to the financial situation,” he added.

Despite impressing at Al Ahly, Sobhi was left out of the Pharaohs’ squad for the 2019 AFCON, and was instead called-up for the U-23 national team.
