Al Ain sign Al Ahly & Zamalek target Kodjo Laba, Algeria’s Meziane
Togo international Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba has agreed to join Emirati side Al Ain FC on a free transfer after his contract at Morocco’s RS Berkane expired.
The 27-year-old had previously gained interest from the Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek following his performances in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Laba led RS Berkane to the tournament’s final, which they lost to Zamalek on penalties, and claimed the top scorer award after netting eight goals, including one in the first-leg of the final.
In addition to that, Laba has managed to score 18 goals and provided one assist in 18 appearances in the Botola Pro as his side finished seventh on the league table.
The Togolese forward becomes the second African player to join the Emirati giants this transfer window after the club agreed on terms with Algeria international Abderrahmane Meziane Bentahar.
Meziane has also joined Al Ain on a free transfer after he opted not to sign a new contract at boyhood club USM Alger, where he made around 100 appearances.
In last year’s Algerian Ligue 1, the 25-year-old scored seven goals while assisting nine in 24 games, helping his former side win the league title.
Al Ain has completed two additional signings after acquiring the services of Mohamed Jamal from rivals Al Jazira as well as Al Wasl’s Brazilian forward Caio, who moved for a fee around €5.3 million
