Egypt announce squad ahead of Botswana clash

national team manager Hossan El-Badry has announced his 23-man squad to face in October.

Egypt are set to have their first test under new manager Hossam El-Badry when they host Botswana on October 14 in Cairo.

El-Badry had already called-up five foreign-based players, Mohamed Elneny, Mahmoud Trezeguet, Ahmed Hegazi, Ahmed Hassan ‘Kouka’ and Mohamed Salah, however, the Liverpool winger was exempted from the squad in order to rest.

Now the 59-year-old has announced the remaining 19 players to participate in the training camp, with Talaa El-Geish goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam receiving his first-ever call-up along with Zamalek duo Omar El-Said and Abdallah Gomaa, and Pyramids’ full-back Ragab Bakar.



Al Ahly’s Hamdi Fathi has also received his maiden call-up to the Pharaohs’ squad after impressing with the Reds and was joined by his teammates Hussein El-Shahat and Mohamed Magdy Afsha.

Ahmed Fathi, who has over 130 caps to his name, returned to the national team alongside many familiar faces, namely Tarek Hamed, Abdallah El-Said, Mohamed El-Shennawy, and Omar Gaber.

Meanwhile, the likes of Ramadan Sobhi, Salah Mohsen, Taher Mohamed Taher, and Mostafa Mohamed were left out in order to participate with the U23 national team, who are set to take part in the U23 AFCON.

Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shennawy (Al Ahly), Mohamed Awad (Zamalek), Mohamed Bassam (Tala’a El-Gaish).

Defenders: Ragab Bakar (Pyramids FC), Ahmed Fathi, Ayman Ashraf (Al Ahly), Ahmed Hegazi (West Brom), Baher El-Mohamady (Ismaily), Mahmoud Alaa, Abdallah Gomaa (Zamalek), Mohamed Hamdy (Pyramids FC).

Midfielders: Tarek Hamed (Zamalek), Mohamed Elneny (Besiktas), Amr El-Solaya, Hamdi Fathi, Mohamed Magdy ‘Afsha’, Hussein El-Shahat (Al Ahly), Abdallah El-Said, Omar Gaber, (Pyramids FC), Mahmoud Trezeguet (Aston Villa).

Strikers: Hossam Hassan (Smouha), Omar El-Said (Zamalek), Ahmed Hassan ‘Kouka’ (Sporting Braga).
