Zamalek’s Mahmoud Abdelaziz sustains ACL injury
Zamalek midfielder Mahmoud Abdelaziz has sustained an ACL injury during his side’s game against Misr El-Makkasa in the Egyptian Premier League.
The Whites managed to get all three points when they beat Misr El-Makkasa 1-0 on Thursday night, thanks to an Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ strike in the 56th minute.
Zizo was then subbed-off in the 74th minute for Mahmoud Abdelaziz who made his first appearance for the club this season.
Then just 16 minutes after coming on, the 29-year-old clashed with El-Makkasa captain Mido Gaber and was unable to continue the game.
Following the game, Zamalek president Mortada Mansour announced that the player has suffered an ACL injury and will have to undergo surgery. Local reports also suggest that Abdelaziz might be sidelined from six to seven months.
Since joining Zamalek from Smouha in 2018, Abdelaziz has been in and out of the squad for technical or injury-related reasons. During his 39 appearances for the club he scored on six occasions while providing two assists.
Additionally, he managed to lift two Egypt Cup titles and the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup and was included in Hector Cuper’s 2018 World Cup preliminary squad.
