Ahmed Hassan: Hassan Shehata was informed he is Egypt’s new coach
Egypt legend Ahmed Hassan has confessed that legendary Egypt coach Hassan Shehata was informed he has been appointed as the Pharaohs new coach succeeding Javier Aguirre before the Egyptian Football Association chose Hossam El-Badry.
El-Badry was appointed by the EFA as Egypt’s new head coach last month following the sacking of Javier Aguirre in July.
The former Al Ahly manager has already picked the staff that will join him during his tenure with the Pharaohs as El-Badry is set to be joined by Mohamed Barakat and Sayed Moawad.
The EFA’s shortlist for Egypt boss included the likes of Ehab Galal, Hassan Shehata and Hossam Hassan in addition to El-Badry.
But former Egypt captain assures the selection had fallen on the three-time AFCON winner Shehata.
“Shehata was informed he is appointed as Egypt manager from one of the current EFA members,” Hassan told a local radio station.
“Shehata spoke with me and asked me to occupy the national team manager role but I declined.”
“Some of El-Badry’s technical staff’s members were forced on him. Some of the decisions were taken as sort of balance of power between Al Ahly and Zamalek’s presence in the national team which contradicts what EFA head Amr El-Ganainy had stated before.”
Egypt are set to host Botswana in a friendly at the Cairo international stadium next Monday.
