Egyptian weightlifter Mohamed Ihab announces his retirement
Egyptian weightlifter Mohamed Ihab has announced his retirement following the International Weightlifting Federation’s recent decision.
The International Weightlifting Federation recently decided to ban Egypt from participating in weightlifting competitions for two years.
Based on that decision, Ihab decided it was best to retire after he was ruled out of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
The 29-year-old was hoping to achieve a gold medal at next year’s Olympics after winning a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
As the Egyptian Olympic committee try to appeal the decision, Ihab already has his future plans set as he revealed that he will be completing his Master’s studies and will begin a coaching career after that.
In addition to winning a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics, Ihab has won three gold medals in his career in the 2018 Mediterranean Games, 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, and the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships.
The World Weightlifting Championships also saw Ihab achieve three silver medals in 2014, 2015, and 2018.
