El-Badry yet to decide Egypt captain
Egypt manager Hossam El-Badry has stated that he has yet to decide on the Pharaohs’ captain matter amid rumors Liverpool star Mohamed Salah could be the chosen one.
El-Badry named Ahmed Fathi as Egypt’s captain in his first official friendly as the Pharaohs’ manager against Botswana where Egypt prevailed with a goal from Hamdy Fathi.
As rumors were being circulated that Mohamed Salah will reclaim the captaincy armband when he returns to the squad, Fathi affirmed that he would have no problem with that.
“There is no certainties regarding Egypt’s captain armband. It’s not necessary that the oldest player or the biggest star on the team is named captain,” El-Badry told Al Hadath channel.
“The captaincy has certain criteria and requirements. Will Salah be the captain? We haven’t decided that until now.”
“We are still in evaluation phase and we will decide the best for the national team. The captain must be someone that plays regularly with his team that is respected and appreciated.”
“I will first speak with the veteran players to know their opinion and based on that the technical staff will take their decision,” he added.
