VIDEO: Egypt beat Ghana 3-2 to secure an AFCON semi-final spot

secured an 2019 U-23 African Cup of Nations semi-final spot after an entertaining 3-2 comeback win against Ghana in the tournament’s second fixture.

Ghana shock Egypt as they opened the scoring in sixth minute, through Yaw Yeboah who finished Samuel Obeng’s low cross into the back of Mohammed Sobhy’s net.

The Pharaohs responded in the 17th minute, as Ahmed Aboul-Fotouh went up the left flank and sent an accurate cross towards Mostafa Mohamed, who converted with a well-placed header to level things up.

Four minutes before ahead of the break, Ramadan Sobhi nearly took the lead for Egypt, when he received a loose ball near the edge of the box, however, his powerful volley was parried away by Kwame Baah.

Just one minute after the restart, Ghana took the lead once again through Obeng. The number 18 capitalized on a defensive error from Mohamed Abdel-Salam and went past Sobhy before slotting into the empty net.

After conceding, Egypt kept pushing forward in order to make things level and in the 57th minute Sobhi managed to find the back of Baah’s net, however, his header was ruled out for offside.

Around the 75-minute mark, Abdelrahman Magdy squared the ball to Karim Eleraky on the right side, but the fullback’s strike cannoned off the crossbar.

The Egyptians didn’t give up as Sobhi scored the equaliser in the 82nd minute. The winger scored from the rebound after Magdy’s initial shot was poorly handled by Baah.

Just six minutes later, the hosts completed the comeback as super sub Ahmed Rayan headed Sobhi’s cross past Baah, to make it 3-2 and send Egypt to the semi-finals.

Egypt top Group A with six points from two games and will face Cameron on the 14th of November.
