Sobhi scores late as Egypt snatch U-23 AFCON title

and scored as Egypt crowned Champions for the first time ever.

The Pharaohs controlled the proceedings of the game as they maintained position and pushed forward in order to open the scoreline.

Egypt's efforts paid off in the 37th minute, as they broke the deadlock through El-Eraky. Sobhi advanced up the left flank and sent a ground cross to the fullback, who drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

Just six minutes later, the Elephants nearly leveled things up through Gnaka, however, his clever freekick effort hit the post.

The visitors pushed forward and around the 70-minute mark, Traore received a defence splitting pass behind Egypt's defence, but the Ivorian failed to finish it past Mohamed Sobhy.

Just one minute before the fulltime whistle, Cote D'Ivoire leveled things up when Mohamed Outtara received the ball up the right flank and sent a low cross towards Boubakar Doumbia, who drilled it past Sobhy, to send the game to extra time.

The Ivorians nearly took the lead in 94th minute, however, Sobhy saved Musa Dao's follow up from a close range, after a he failed to handle the first shot.

Five minutes before the final whistle, Sobhi snatched the victory for the Egyptians as he scored from the rebound after Ahmed Yasser's Rayan's long range shot fell from Tape.
