Zamalek president: We will not play the CAF Super Cup in Qatar

Zamalek president has declared that the club’s board of directors have unanimously decided to not play the final against Esperance Sportive de Tunis which is expected to be held in February 2020 in Qatar.

Mansour has reiterated once again what he has been saying for the previous month, this time in a formal manner and during a press conference held in Zamalek headquarters on Tuesday.

After having lifted the CAF Confederation Cup trophy back in May, Zamalek were set to face Champions League winners Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the Super Cup.

Now, after Africa’s football governing body decided that the game will take place on the 14th of February in Qatar. Zamalek president Mortada Mansour confirmed that side won’t attend the game.

“Zamalek board took the decision to not play the Super Cup in Qatar because it is hostile to Egypt,” Mansour said.

“We discussed our opinions together on the board meeting, some took the game from a sporting perspective and others objected playing looking from a political point of view and seeing that Qatar works on destructing Egypt.”
