Zamalek beat Al-Sharkia to reach Egypt Cup round of 16

Zamalek have secured a 3-1 win against second division side to secure a spot in the round of 16 and will face the winner between Smouha and El-Obour.

Just 15 minutes into the game, Abdallah Gomaa took a powerful shot from outside the penalty area but it was denied by the post.

In the 23rd minute Omar El-Said’s close range shot hit the post but Achraf Bencharki followed up to open the scoring for the Whites.

Five minutes before the half-time whistle, Ferjani Sassi header doubled the scoring for the Whites after smashing Hazem Emam’s cross into the back of the net.

Zamalek continued their domination throughout the second-half and in the 65th minute Youssef Obama’s header was brilliantly saved by Al-Sharkia goalkeeper ‘Mesh Mesh’.

In 74th minute, Morocco’s Mohamed Ounajem missed a clear one-on-one opportunity, then three minutes later fellows compatriot Bencharki completed his brace after an amazing play with Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’ inside the penalty area.

Finally, in the 91st minute Al-Sharkia reduced the gap thanks to a Mahmoud Abdelwahed header.

Zamalek’s upcoming game will be against Angola’a Primeiro de Agosto in the CAF Champions League next Saturday December 7th at 17:00 CLT in the Cairo International Stadium.
