Red Bull Salzburg manager has lauded the impressive goal scored by Liverpool star against his club when both sides faced each other in the final round of the Champions League group stages.

Liverpool topped their UEFA Champions League group on Tuesday after beating RB Salzburg in game-week six, to secure a spot in the round of 16.

Guinean international Naby Keita opened the scoring with a header in the 57th minute, before Salah put the game to bed with an incredible finish from what was seemingly an impossible angle.

This marked the 28-year-old’s fourth goal in the Champions League this season and his 11th across all competitions.

“In the end they showed their quality. Salah’s goal was unbelievable. It was like a heavyweight fight. We punched them but then they punched us twice more,” Mersch said.

“We knew that we needed our best performance so far and that was our best performance. We are very disappointed. Until we conceded, we probably couldn’t have played any better. In a day or two the pride might come to the fore.”
