Sam Morsy scores, Hegazi suffers injury as Wigan beat West Brom

Wigan defeated West Brom 1-0 on Saturday to climb out of the relegation zone as and both started the game.

West Brom had a poor start to the game as they allowed Wigan to create multiple chances in the first half.

The Latics almost opened the scoring in the first half through Gavin Massey as his diving header hit the outside of the post.

To make matters worse for West Brom, center-back Ahmed Hegazi came off injured with two minutes remaining to half-time.

The hosts responded in the second half when Filip Krovinovic struck the ball from outside the box but his effort went inches wide.

Despite their efforts in the second half, West Brom conceded in the 73rd minute when Sam Morsy pounced on a loose ball and struck it with venom to give his side the lead.

A few minutes later, Wigan had the chance to double their lead when Jamal Lowe was through on goal but the Englishman’s effort was saved by Sam Johnstone.

Following their victory, Wigan have now climbed out of the relegation zone as they are now 19th in the Championship table with 40 points after 36 games played.

Their next game will be at home on Saturday against Luton Town in the Championship. Kick-off takes place at 17:00 CLT.
