Al Ahly president advises Hossam Ashour to retire at the end of the season
Ashour was initially told by the club’s board on Friday that he is of favour for Swiss manager Rene Weiler and to look for a new club regarding the upcoming season.
However, the 34-year-old met with Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib to rediscuss Ashour’s Al Ahly exit, the club announced.
El-Khatib has advised Ashour to hang up his boots at the end of the season to finish the latter’s career on a high after winning a total of 34 trophies with Al Ahly.
Additionally, El-Khatib also told Ashour that a testimonial game will be held for the midfielder while offering him a deal with Al Ahly’s TV channel as a pundit.
Ashour came all the way from the club’s youth sector towards the first team, spending around 16 years at the club to hold Al Ahly’s all-time appearances record by making over 500 games for the Red Devils.
During his time at the club, Ashour achieved 12 Egyptian Premier League titles, five CAF Champions League trophies and three Egypt Cup wins.
