Ryan Giggs reveals Wales tried to emulate Liverpool’s tactics
The trio has contributed to Liverpool’s recent success as they helped the Reds win the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup titles this season.
Ryan Giggs has now lifted the lid on the time he tried to implement a similar setup with Wales using Bournemouth’s Harry Wilson, Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, and Manchester United’s Daniel James.
“We show different teams, whether it be league teams, international teams, to visualise what we’re looking for,” Giggs told The Athletic.
“Not massive. It would be a couple of clips. ‘This is what we want.’ The same principles, just a little tweak.
“Against Croatia, we tried Harry [Wilson] in that false-nine position, so a bit like Liverpool, [Roberto] Firmino dropping.
“[Gareth] Bale and DJ [Daniel James] would be the likes of Mane and Salah, that sort of position. It didn’t quite work,” he added.
