Sfaxien’s Mathlouthi confirms Zamalek deal is almost done

CS Sfaxien right back has confirmed he has an agreement in principal with Cairo giants Zamalek to join them in the summer transfer window, but warned the transfer is not completed yet.

Zamalek have been on the lookout for a right-back since since Hamdi Nagguez’s departure last year in December.

The White Knights also haven’t been convinced by Hazem Emam, who has been a starter after Nagguez left the club.

It was reported earlier this week in Tunisia that the 27-year-old is indeed headed to Zamalek this summer.

“There has been an initial agreement with Zamalek in the past few days but in world football everything rapidly changes since rules could change in Egypt. We can’t speak about a formal transfer unless contracts are signed,” Mathlouthi told Tunisian newspaper Al Jarida.

“Personally I believe things are almost done and everything will be completed after the official signature.”

“My relationship with Sfaxien is very strong and I couldn’t take this decision before consulting the club. I informed the club officials with all the details related to negotiations [with Zamalek]. I hope to finish the season with Sfaxien but this is also related to Zamalek and the summer preparations program.”

The former CA Bizertin player reported had an offer from Tunisia giants Esperance, but he explained why he favoured Zamalek’s offer.

“The economical side of the offer is important to any player and makes the difference. Zamalek presented an offer that could not be refused from an economical point of view, while also considering the club’s return as one of the protagonist in Africa and its huge fanbase Zamalek becomes a very logical choice.”

“Zamalek’s current situation encourages any player to join the team especially after the Tunisian players’ success there. I am fully convinced of my choice of Zamalek even though I had the chance to play abroad.”

“I spoke with Carteron who welcomed me and backed me throughout the past period.”
