Trezeguet reflects on first season with Aston Villa after securing PL safety
The Villains drew 1-1 against West Ham on Sunday to secure their Premier League safety for next season as Watford, Bournemouth, and Norwich City were all relegated to the EFL Championship.
Mahmoud Trezeguet had played a key part in keeping Villa’s survival hopes alive, scoring goals against Crystal Palace and Arsenal to keep the club in the fight to avoid relegation until the final matchday.
Speaking after Villa’s draw against West Ham, Trezeguet expressed his relief that his side will be in the Premier League season while also breaking down the difficult run of games he had recently.
“Hard work always pays off,” Trezeguet told beIN Sports. “It was a tough season because sometimes I play, sometimes I don’t but I always believed that my chance would come.
“In the end, I had my chance and I’m happy that I had a role in keeping Aston Villa in the Premier League.
“If we had lost or drew against Crystal Palace, we would’ve been relegated and against Arsenal, we played against a very strong team that had defeated both Liverpool and Manchester City in the same week,” the 25-year-old added.
Trezeguet has now finished his first season in English football with seven goals and three assists to his name in 41 games for Aston Villa across all competitions.
