Weiler dicusses Al Ahly win, copping without Sobhi
The Red Devils got a deserved win against ENPPI in their first game since the resumption of the Egyptian Premier League.
Despite their clear dominance over the Petroleum, both their goals came in the last 30 minutes of the second-half through full-backs Mohamed Hany and Ali Maaloul.
Talking to the press following the game, Weiler expressed his delight with the and believed they could’ve scored more goals.
“We dominated the majority of the game and we missed many chances against ENPPI,” the Swiss said during the post match press conference.
“On the other hand they didn’t have any chances throughout the whole game.
“Our fist goal allowed us to take control over the midfield until Maaloul managed to score the second goal before the final whistle,” he continued.
The game also marked the return of Hamdi Fathi after being sidelined for 309 days due to a long-term injury.
Meanwhile the likes of Kahraba, Ramadan Sobhi and Hussein El-Shahat missed the games for different reasons.
The latter suffered a training injury, while Kahraba was given a 10-match ban after his brawl with Zamalek winger Emam Ashour during the Egyptian Super Cup which saw Al Ahly lose on penalties to their arch rivals.
Ramadan Sobhi on the other hand was left out of the squad after he failed to resolve his contract issues with Huddersfield Town.
“Hamdi is an important player for us and we’re happy that he’s back.
“I’m focusing on the players we have right now and I try make the most of what I’ve got. I don’t focus on the missing players,” he concluded.
Al Ahly will face eighth-placed Entag El-Harby in their next league game on August 14th at Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo.
