Official: Croatian referee for Cairo Derby revealed

Croatian referee, , has been chosen to officiate the between and in the Egyptian Premier League.

Even though Al Ahly are on top of the league table with a 17-point margin from their closest rivals Zamalek, winning the Cairo Derby is still a point of pride for either teams.

The Whites infamously withdrew from the game in the first fixture after the team’s bus ‘broke down’, causing them to lose the three points. This occurred just days after they beat the Red Devils in the Egyptian Super Cup.

They were therefore hope to compensate what happened back February with a win over their arch rivals.

The Egyptian FA (EFA) announced that a Croatian refereeing staff led by Ivan Bebek will officiate the highly awaited encounter. Bebek will be assisted by fellow compatriots Goran Pataki and Ivica Modric.

The fourth official will be Fran Jovic. Meanwhile Goran Gabrilo will be in charge of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) along with Tomislav Petrovic.

The game will be held on Saturday August 22nd at the Cairo International Stadium at 9:00pm local time.
