Elneny, Arsenal win Community Shield as they beat Salah’s Liverpool
The Gunners started the game on the front foot, dominating in possession while also posing a threat going forward.
As a result, Arsenal managed to open the scoring in the 12th minute through their Gabonese goal machine, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Mohamed Elneny was involved in the build-up as Arsenal started the move from the back with Bukayo Saka switching play to the left-hand side, finding Aubameyang, who took a touch and produced a sublime curler into the far corner.
Liverpool got back into the game in the 69th minute when Takumi Minamino pounced on a loose ball and scored to bring his side level.
Both sides went straight to a penalty shootout after the full-time whistle as the rules state that there is no extra time to be played in the Community Shield.
Despite Mohamed Salah scoring the first penalty for Liverpool, Arsenal were clinical in the shootout, scoring all five of their attempts as they won 5-4.
The result gives Arsenal a boost ahead of the beginning of the 2020/21 Premier League season, set to start on September 12th.
Arsenal are set to face newly-promoted Fulham in the new season’s opening game while Liverpool host Leeds United on the same day.
