Former Egypt and Tottenham forward Ahmed Hossam Mido has revealed a conversation with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over compatriot Mohamed Elneny.

Elneny spent the entirety of last season with Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, before returning to Arsenal this summer despite rumours linking him with a move away from London.

The likes of Trabzonspor, Galatasaray, and Italian side Sampdoria are all believed to be considering a loan move for the midfielder, however, Mikel Arteta’s comments on the Egyptian could still mean he has a future at Arsenal.

A goal on his return against MK Dons followed by a spectacular performance against Liverpool in the Community Shield, which the Gunners won, wowed Arteta, who wants to strengthen his midfield this summer.

And Mido believes Elneny has a ‘golden opportunity’ to be part of Mikel Arteta’s future plans at Arsenal, while revealing a conversation with the young coach over the Egyptian international.

“I have met Arteta in Wales two years ago and I have asked him about Mohamed Elneny,” Mido said on a video posted on his Youtube channel.

“Arteta replied: ‘Elneny is a very good player and I like him because he is not easily dispossessed.'”

Mido added: “I think Arteta’s style of playing out from the back grants Elneny a golden opportunity to stay at Arsenal.

“Elneny played very smartly against Liverpool and this could make him part of Arteta’s project at Arsenal,” he added.

Whether Elneny or leave Arsenal or not all depends on the club’s activity in the transfer market as they are keen on bringing one of Thomas Partey or Dani Ceballos, with Lyon star Houssem Aouar also on their radar.

Elneny had joined Arsenal in January 2016 from FC Basel and has made 90 appearances for them so far, guiding them to one FA Cup title and two Community Shields.
