Nasser Maher confirms Al Ahly return
Nasser Maher has confirmed his return back to Al Ahly, saying that Pitso Mosimane has requested his presence in the squad for next season.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Smouha, helping them to a respectable fifth place finish as they missed out on CAF Confederation Cup qualification by just three points.
Maher had a remarkable season with the Blues, scoring seven goals while assisting 11 in 26 league games, which made Pitso Mosimane put him into his plans for next season.
Speaking on Sunday, Maher said: “Sayed Abdel-Hafiz [Director of football] has contacted my agent to inform him about my return.
“It’s an honor to be playing for Africa’s biggest club. Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has requested that I return back,” he added.
Maher is a product of Al Ahly youth system and was promoted for the first-team in 2018, spending a couple of seasons out on loan at both Smouha and Petrojet.
Overall, he has made 37 appearances for them, scoring three goals while providing further three assists, winning the 2018/19 league title with them.
The midfielder was also part of the Egypt U23 national team that won a historic 2019 AFCON and was expected to feature in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
