VIDEO: Zizo caps dramatic Zamalek comeback to overcome FC Masr

Zamalek have managed to defeat 2-1 on Saturday in the quarter-finals despite trailing very late in the game.

Both sides had a very slow start to the game and failed to create any real threat on goal in the opening minutes.

Kabongo Kasongo nearly opened the scoring for Zamalek in the eighth minute but his goal was ruled out for offside by the VAR.

Referee Mahmoud Ashour then awarded Zamalek a penalty in the 25th minute but VAR denied Zamalek the opportunity to score early in the game.

The White Knights were reduced to ten men in the second half as Emam Ashour was sent off for a reckless challenge on Islam El-Far.

FC Masr capitalized and stunned Zamalek after breaking the deadlock in the 85th minute through their substitute Abdelrahman Gondaya.

However, they failed to hold on to their lead as Zamalek grabbed the equalizer at the death when Osama Faisal’s shot sparked their comeback and sent the game to extra time.

Ahmed Sayed Zizo completed Zamalek’s turnaround in the second half of extra time after successfully converting a penalty that was awarded after VAR consultation.

Zamalek are set to play Al Ahly in the first-ever Cairo derby in the final of the CAF Champions League final on Friday, November 27th.
