Essam El-Hadary named president of Emirati football club
egypt's legendary goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary has been named the new president of second-division Emirati side liwa fc.
El-Hadary had announced his retirement from football in 2019 after having a short stint at former Egyptian Premier League side Nogoom FC.
After revealing he received an offer to make his comeback, El-Hadary announced that he has officially hung up his boots and will shift his focus towards coaching.
The 47-year-old was offered a goalkeeping coach role by Tunisian giants etoile du sahel, with El-Hadary set to reunite with former manager Jorvan Vieira.
However, talks fell through as El-Hadary revealed complications that prevented him from taking the goalkeeping coach role at Etoile du Sahel.
And now, the former Al Ahly man took on a managerial role as El-Hadary confirmed that he is the new president of second-division Emirati side Liwa FC.
“I am honoured to be the president of Liwa FC,” El-Hadary said on Instagram.
El-Hadary had an illustrious footballing career with the Egyptian national team, having won three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations titles between 2006 and 2010.
The former Al Ahly man also became the oldest goalkeeper to play in a fifa world cup after starting in Egypt's 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia in 2018.
