OFFICIAL: Algeria’s Islam Slimani joins Olympique Lyonnais
The 32-year-old had joined the Foxes from Sporting Lisbon in August 2016 for a fee of around €30m, but failed to make an impact in England.
Despite featuring 29 in his first season with the 2016 Premier League Champions, Slimani fell out of favour and was sent out on loan three times to Newcastle United, Fenerbahce SK, and AS Monaco.
This season, he has made one appearance for Leicester City, coming on as a substitute in their defeat to Aston Villa last October.
Overall, he has 13 goals and seven assists in 47 games with Leicester City and now will return back to France through Olympique Lyonnais, penning down an 18-month deal.
Slimani, whose deal was due to expire at the end of the season, was signed by Lyon as a replacement for Moussa Dembélé, who made a switch to La Liga leaders Atlético Madrid.
Lyon men currently sit top of the Ligue 1 table after 19 rounds, just one point ahead of both PSG and Lille as they seek to win their first league title in 13 years.
Prior to his time at Leicester City, Slimani has had stints at Algerian clubs JSM Chéraga and CR Belouizdad, before making a big move to Sporting CP in 2013.
