Esperance defender tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of Al Ahly clash

giants de Tunis have made an announcement regarding the collective COVID-19 testing for the first team squad ahead of their clash against Al Ahly in semifinal on Saturday, stating that defender Houcine Rabii has tested positive.

The Red Devils clinched a spot in the League semi-finals, after knocking out Mamelodi Sundowns with a 3-1 victory on aggregate to mark their 17th semi-final appearance in the competition, the most for any team in Africa.

On the other hand, Esperance pulled a comeback against and winning the game on penalties after the tie ended with 2-2 draw on aggregate.

The first leg encounter was expected to take place on June 18 in Rades with the return leg scheduled to be played on the 25th of the same month in Cairo.

Esperance announced that the entire squad have underwent COVID-19 tests as the protocol cites in order to eliminate the players or members with the virus.

The whole squad of the Tunisia powerhouse have returned a negative result, except for central defender Houcine Rabii who tested positive for coronavirus.

Esperance assured that Rabii was immediately excluded from the squad following the announcement of his result.

Rabii featured in only eight games this season, including one for Esperance in the Champions League against MC Alger.
