CAF fine Al Ahly for fan misconduct during Esperance CL clash

The () have punished Al Ahly for their fans' behaviour during the clash with Sportive de Tunis in the CAF League semi-finals.

In their journey to winning their 10th CAF trophy, Al Ahly faced Tunisia's Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the semifinal.

The first leg was held in the Rades Olympic Stadium in Tunis, with CAF allowing 5000 fans to attend the game in the 60 000-seater stadium.

Some of the fans attending the game started lighting fireworks before the start of the match which led to a confrontation with the police, which by its turn forced the officials to postpone the kick-off time for one hour.

Al Ahly players who were warming up and the referees had to leave the field due to suffocation from the tear gas used by the police to control the situation.

In the match report, it was noted that Al Ahly fans had also taken part in lighting up the fireworks before the match-start whistle.

As a result, Al Ahly were fined and have to pay $8,000 for their fans' reckless behaviour.
