Mane, who lost the final three years prior, was determined to not let this trophy slip away against Mohamed Salah's Egypt.

Mane did exactly so by scoring the winning penalty in the penalty shootouts, after missing from the spot during the game.

After the final whistle Mane was seen consoling his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, who lost the second AFCON final of his career.

Speaking to French news outlet l'Equipe, the 29-year-old revealed what he told Salah to try and console him.

“After we won the title, it was clear to me that he was very disappointed, I didn't want to leave him like this,” Mane said.

“Salah would have done the same thing with me, if Egypt had been crowned champions.

“I told him simple words to help him push through and told him never to give up,” he added.

Salah and Mane are having a phenomenal season with Liverpool, combining for 42 goals and 12 assists across all competitions.
