Zamalek were coming off a crucial win against arch-rivals al ahly, which gifted them their 19th league title.
Meanwhile, Sporting had a great run in the Egypt Cup, having surprisingly knocked out Al Ahly in the quarter-finals, before overcoming Heliopolis in the semi-finals.
Despite many considering Zamalek as huge favourites for the game, the Whites Knights were struggling from the get-go, and were trailing by three goals for the majority of the first-half.
They then ended the first-half behind 16-12.
Despite their efforts to come back into the game in the second-half, Sporting Club of Alexandria's defensive prowess didn't allow them to reduce the deficit.
The game finally ended in the Alexandrian side's favour 33-30, which marked Sporting's first domestic cup title in their history.
