OFFICIAL: Egypt U20 international Ramez Hefzalla joins Scottish club Peterhead

Egypt U20 international Ramez Hefzalla has completed an unexpected switch to Scottish side Peterhead on a free transfer.

Hefzalla was born in to an Egyptian father and a Moroccan mother, giving him the option to represent any of the three countries.

After initially choosing to represent Morocco, Hezalla switched allegiances to represent the Pharaohs on the U20 level last March ahead of the 2023 U20 AFCON.

On the club level, Ramez came through the youth ranks of club Milwall and represented the club at the FA Youth Cup, but failed to make any appearances for the first team.

Following his release by Milwall, Hefzalla made a move to Scottish club Peterhead, signing a short-term deal in hopes of gaining more first-team experience.

The League One club announced the deal on Wednesday and manager Jim McInally hailed praise on the Egyptian youngster.

“Ramez is a very gifted player technically who has great skill and has the potential to entertain our fans,” McInally said.

“It really is a win-win situation for both parties as we are getting the opportunity to use a player that we would potentially not have found had we gone down the traditional recruitment routes and Ramez is getting the chance to show what he can do in a first team environment.”

Hefzalla becomes Peterhead's 19th signing of the summer transfer window as the club will be hoping to avoid the drop to the fourth tier.

The Scottish League One season has already started and Peterhead find themselves bottom of the ten-team table with just one point from their opening five games.
