Aliou Dieng named EPL Player of the Week for matchday one

Al Ahly's star Aliou Dieng has been named EPL Player of the Week for matchday one following his impressive performance against Ismaily.

The Reds had kicked off their season with a tough 1-0 victory over rivals Ismaily, thanks to a late goal from debutant Shady Hussien.

Despite Hussien scoring the winner and providing the assist, the man-of-match award went to right-back Akram Tawfik who made a return after a long absence.

But for the Player of the Week award, his teammate Aliou Dieng was the one to clinch it after seeing off competition from Zamalek's Shikabala and John Ebuka of Ceramica.

Dieng dominated the midfield alongside Hamdi Fathi against Ismaily and despite receiving a yellow card just three minutes into the game, he managed to see off the full 90 minutes.

The Malian then had another impressive night against on matchday two, but was forced off at half-time after feeling a slight hamstring pain.
