Dispute with Al Ahly board led to Pito’s departure, says club legend

Former Al Ahly forward Mohamed Barakat explained the reasons behind 's departure from the club.

Pitso had left Cairo giants Al Ahly back just days after their defeat to Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League final back in June.

During his tenure, the 58-year-old had led the Red Devils to three CAF Champions League finals in a row, winning both the 2020 and 2021 editions of the competition.

He had also guided the team to two consecutive bronze medals, and two victories in addition to an Egypt Cup and Egyptian Super Cup coronations.

“I think Mosimane had a successful run with Al Ahly because he achieved so many titles in just 18 months,” Barakat told 24 Sports TV.

“He was backed by the board, but he was also taking aim at them during the press conferences in the latter stages of his stint to make a point.

“Not to mention the way he spoke about renewing his contract, and then about his players in an inappropriate manner.

“I think the final straw for him was when he insinuated that the club is led by opinions on social media which is unacceptable because Al Ahly is a big club,” he added.

Mosimane is currently managing Saudi giants Al Ahli Jeddah as he was announced as their new head coach two months ago.

The South African manager had a good start as Al Ahli are currently seventh with three games in hand in the Yelo League table and trail leaders Al Faisaly by seven points.
