REPORT: Al Ahly open negotiations with Ghana's Daniel Afriyie

Ghanaian reports have emerged linking Egyptian giants Al Ahly with Heats of Oak star Daniel Afriyie over a potential January move.

Al Ahly have been on the hunt for a new forward for several months now after the move for Kawasaki Frontale winger fell through in the last seconds.

With Al Ahly struggling up front, director of Sayed Abdel-Hafiz promised the fans new signings in the January transfer window, and the first name to be leaked in the media is Ghana's Daniel Afriyie.

According to Ghanasoccernet, Al Ahly have already opened their negotiations with the Afriyie after impressing with Hearts of Oak and being named in the Black Stars' final squad list for the 2022 World Cup.

The left-winger didn't feature for a single minute in Qatar, but played three pre-World Cup friendlies, including a full 90 minutes against Switzerland in the last warm-up game, which Ghana won 2-0.

On the club level, Afriyie joined Hearts of Oak back in July 2019 from 's Rahimo FC and made 69 appearances since then, scoring 13 goals.

According to the report, Afriyie has a lot of interest from clubs in both Africa and on the back of his involvement in Ghana's World Cup campaign.

Al Ahly had several prominent Ghanaians in their ranks in the past, most notably Felix Aboagye in the 1990s and most recently John Antwi, who later became the all-time foreign top goalscorer in the Egyptian Premier League.

Al Ahly are currently leading the league table with 22 points after eight rounds as they hope to win their first league title in three years.
